ASSAMBA is a Mozambican non-profit focused on promoting sustainable bamboo cultivation. Our mission is to educate, train, and research bamboo's potential to support environmental, economic, and social development in Mozambique.

We cultivate bamboo at our 3-hectare farm with 2,000 plants of 9 species. We also offer training on bamboo cultivation and its uses while conducting research to advance its sustainable development.

The project aims to expand our nursery, train local farmers, and grow bamboo on 10 hectares. It will also create jobs and produce eco-friendly charcoal, supporting sustainable practices in southern Mozambique.

ASSAMBA works with rural communities and farmers, providing training in bamboo cultivation for sustainable livelihoods. We collaborate with environmental organizations and NGOs focused on reforestation and climate change mitigation. Our initiatives support entrepreneurs and small businesses, such as artisans and furniture makers, interested in bamboo-based products. We also engage with researchers, academics, and universities exploring bamboo’s potential, as well as policymakers and government agencies looking to integrate bamboo into sustainability strategies.

Bamboo is a fast-growing, highly renewable resource with immense environmental, economic, and social benefits. It helps combat deforestation, improves soil restoration, and captures carbon, making it a key solution for climate change mitigation. Its versatility allows for use in construction, furniture, energy, textiles, and handicrafts, creating sustainable business opportunities. Bamboo also provides affordable housing solutions and enhances livelihoods for rural communities. ASSAMBA operates primarily in Ponta do Ouro, Maputo, Mozambique, focusing on regions where bamboo can create significant environmental and socio-economic impact. We work in rural areas and vulnerable communities, promoting sustainable bamboo cultivation for reforestation, eco-friendly housing, and economic opportunities. Additionally, we collaborate with national and international organizations to expand the use of bamboo as a sustainable solution across the country.
